SPA Lens Captures Image of Last Giant Moon of 2023

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) has captured a photographic image of the fourth and final giant moon of the year from the shores of the Red Sea on the evening of its appearance. This moon, commonly referred to as the Harvest Moon during this time of the year, appeared approximately 8% larger and 16% brighter than its usual size.

After sunset, a bright giant harvest moon rose from the eastern horizon, visible in pink or orange until sunrise on Saturday. According to President of the Astronomical Society in Jeddah Majed Abu Zahra the planet’s atmosphere causes the moon to appear pink or orange during sunrise. Specifically, the atmosphere scatters white light reflected from the moon, resulting in the dispersion of the colors of the blue spectrum with short wavelengths and the observation of the colors of the red spectrum with long wavelengths by our eyes.

The moon will rise one hour later every day during the coming nights, and in a few days, it will be visible only in the sky at dawn and early morning. At that time, it will reach the stage of the final quarter, a week after the full moon develops.
