Southern Military Region Foils Drone-Based Drug Smuggling Attempt

Amman: The Southern Military Region successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of narcotics into Jordan using a drone, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) announced. The incident took place within the region's area of responsibility, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by border security forces.

According to Jordan News Agency, Border Guard units detected the drone as it attempted to cross into Jordanian territory. The units engaged the drone and managed to shoot it down, preventing the illegal cargo from reaching its intended destination. The narcotics were promptly seized in coordination with relevant security and military agencies, including the Anti-Narcotics Department.

The seized narcotics were handed over to competent authorities for the necessary legal and investigative actions. The JAF reiterated its commitment to countering all smuggling and infiltration efforts with firmness, utilizing all available operational and intelligence resources.

The JAF emphasized that Border Guard units maintain high readiness levels to counter any threats to the Kingdom's security and stability. The forces continue to safeguard Jordan's borders and combat drug smuggling as part of a comprehensive system of monitoring and coordination with relevant authorities.
