Social Development Minister and UN Women Executive Director Discuss Strengthening Cooperation

Amman: Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa met with Sima Bahous, Under-Secretary-General of the UN and Executive Director of UN Women, to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation.

According to Jordan News Agency, Bani Mustafa highlighted the collaborative efforts between her Ministry and UN Women, commending the joint implementation of various programmes and initiatives. These efforts, particularly those carried out by the Ministerial Committee for the Empowerment of Women in partnership with the Commission, underscore Jordan’s strong commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and increasing their participation across different sectors.

Bani Mustafa lauded UN Women’s role in launching the Political Declaration of the Beijing Platform for Action on its 30th anniversary, reaffirming Jordan’s continued dedication to the platform’s priorities. She also emphasized the importance of fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security to protect women affected by conflict. The ongoing collaboration on the “Oases” project, being implemented at community development centres across Jordan, was another focal point. This project is evolving to adopt a productivity- and sustainability-focused approach, aiming to enhance the delivery of social and development services to women and girls.

For her part, Bahous expressed appreciation for the strong partnership with the Ministry and the Ministerial Committee, expressing optimism for continued and expanded cooperation. She acknowledged Jordan’s firm stance in upholding the principles of the UN Charter and international humanitarian law. Bahous specifically praised Jordan’s humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip, including the deployment of field hospitals, relief convoys, and medical assistance, as a testament to Jordan’s enduring humanitarian leadership and commitment to pluralism.
