German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday described as “bitter” the situation in Afghanistan, saying that US internal political reasons contributed to the decision to withdraw Western forces from Afghanistan.
“The withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan had a domino effect,” the German news agency (Deutsche Welle) quoted Merkel speaking to her party officials.
She added that the responsibility for the western military withdrawal from Afghanistan rests with the United States.
The chancellor also expressed her understanding for US President Joe Biden decision regarding his country’s heavy casualties in Afghanistan.
