The Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC), wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), has partnered with the King Faisal University on an initiative to turn palm fronds, which are rich natural resources abundantly found in Saudi Arabia, into high-quality wood panels.
SIRC is developing a strategy to enforce this initiative that aims to turn palm fronds, after being processed through techniques based on using heat, pressure and chemicals, into a material similar to wood in shape, texture and properties.
This produced wood is durable since palm fronds have high resistance to corrosion and various weather factors. Compared to natural wood, it is produced at a low cost due to its abundance and ease of manufacturing. Additionally, wood produced from palm fronds is environmentally friendly, as no tree cutting is involved.
SIRC is a specialized Saudi company in the recycling sector, with a number of partnerships in waste recycling. It is developing new projects in the sector in cooperation with local and international companies to expand environmentally friendly projects, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and in support of the Saudi Green Initiative’s objectives.
