Senate president meets DMAS chair over strengthening Jordan-EU relations

Senate President, Faisal Fayez affirmed Jordan’s pride in the “high” level of Jordanian relations with EU countries in various fields, especially in political and economic areas.

Fayez called for strengthening Jordan-EU ties and removing any obstacles that might hinder their development.

Speaking at a meeting with chair of the European Parliament’s delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries (DMAS), Isabel Santos, and Ambassador of the European Union in Jordan, Fayez lauded the Jordan-EU relations as “strong and strategic,” based on mutual respect and efforts to serve common interests.

Parliamentary diplomacy is able to play an “effective” role towards serving the two sides’ interests and bilateral relations, according to Fayez.

Noting Jordan’s appreciation to EU’s support to Amman, he said the bloc backed His Majesty King Abdullah II’s stances towards the Middle East peace process.

In this regard, he said the EU supports the King’s affirmation on the need to solve the Palestinian cause, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the two-state solution, with Jerusalem as the key to peace in the Middle East region, according to Fayez.

Stressing the need to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, he urged the European Parliament to play “a more effective” role to increase EU investments in Jordan and trade exchanges.

Fayez also called for increasing the EU financial and economic support to Amman to counter Covid-19 pandemic, and to continue its “pivotal” role in the region by working to establish security and stability.
