Senate President meets Arab parliamentary delegation

Senate President Faisal Fayez reiterated His Majesty King Abdullah’s strong focus on empowering Jordanian women to take on more political, economic, and social roles.

Fayez said that in line with His Majesty’s directives to advance the role of Jordanian women, legal legislation has been passed to empower women to participate in political and party life, and legal legislation has allocated seats for them in the Lower House and local government councils.

Fayez gave his remeraks in a meeting with an Arab parliamentary delegation consisting of the head of the Arab Parliament’s Women’s Committee, Ahlam Al-lafi, Bahraini Council of Representatives member Hanan Fardan, and Qatari Shura Council member Sheikha Al-Jufairi, in the presence of Senate Women’s Committee chairwoman Khawla Aramouti, in addition to committee members Senators Asia Yaghi and Ihsan Barakat.

The Senate President commended Arab women’s role in the development process, voicing the Senate’s support for the Arab Parliament’s great role in serving
Arab issues and promoting joint Arab parliamentary action.

For their part, members of the Arab parliamentary delegation expressed their great appreciation for the attention given to Jordanian women at all levels.

They lauded Jordan’s role under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah in defending just Arab causes, especially the Palestinian cause, and the need to stop the brutal Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.

They also expressed their pride in the support received by women members of the Senate by its Speaker and his continuous endeavor to provide the necessary capabilities to enable them to play their oversight and legislative role, highlight their role at the national level in various sectors, and support their participation in various Arab and international parliamentary institutions.
