Amman: Senate President Faisal Fayez on Sunday highlighted the chamber's vigilance over the escalating regional security situation, particularly focusing on the direct and indirect Iranian hostilities targeting Jordan. He pointed out the significant economic and security impacts these developments have on the nation.
According to Jordan News Agency, Fayez's statement underscored that Jordan is at the forefront of regional tension, facing unprecedented challenges and direct violations of international law and the United Nations Charter. He affirmed that under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Jordan is determined to protect its sovereignty, national principles, and stability, with the full backing of its citizens, armed forces, and security agencies.
Fayez made it clear that Jordan would not permit its territory or airspace to become a site for regional conflict or be used for hostile actions against any allied nation. He reiterated Jordan's commitment to peace, stability, and good-neighborly relations, while noting that these principles have not deterred Iran and its regional allies from targeting Jordan with missiles and drones, posing threats to its territory and citizens.
He called for unity among Jordanians under the leadership of the King, emphasizing the importance of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, security agencies, and state institutions in addressing the nation's challenges. Fayez also appealed to political parties, civil society groups, and all sectors of Jordanian society to stay alert and unified, stressing that national security and stability should be prioritized above all.
Furthermore, Fayez urged the international community to intervene and stop Iranian aggression against Jordan and Gulf states, urging adherence to international law, and acknowledging the interconnectedness of Jordan's and Gulf security. He noted King Abdullah's consistent advocacy for resolving regional conflicts through political means and in alignment with international legitimacy resolutions.
