Amman:Senate President Faisal Fayez expressed Jordan's rejection of aggressive Israeli government policies and Iranian attacks on the Kingdom and Gulf states. His statements were made during a meeting with Pere Joan Pons, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), held on the sidelines of an international parliament speakers conference.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting, which was attended by Jordan's Ambassador to Italy Qais Abu Dayyeh, included discussions about Jordan's relations with European Union states and the current regional situation. The talks emphasized the importance of cooperation at all levels to find peaceful solutions to conflicts and wars, adhering to international legitimacy resolutions.
Fayez highlighted King Abdullah II's efforts to engage with political leaders in EU countries and European parliamentary institutions. This is aimed at strengthening Jordan's partnership with the EU across various fields such as politics, economics, and security, and consulting on issues of mutual concern based on their strategic and historic ties.
Regarding regional conflicts, Fayez noted that King Abdullah II, in his address to the United Nations General Assembly, urged the international community to take practical steps to protect people, stop violations, and enforce respect for international law. The King also warned about aggressive Israeli policies, citing war crimes in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip and called for economic sanctions against the Israeli government.
Fayez stressed the risks posed by the Israeli government's continued aggressive and expansionist policies, which include attempts to annex the West Bank and alter the Palestinian cause. He reiterated Jordan's commitment to supporting Palestinian rights and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, commending the EU's support for Jordan and the Hashemite Custodianship over holy sites in Jerusalem.
The discussions also addressed the Iranian-United States-Israeli conflict, with Fayez condemning Iranian attacks on Jordan and Gulf states. Both sides agreed on the need to end the conflict due to its impact on international stability and trade, particularly in terms of energy prices and the closure of vital straits.
Fayez met separately with Italian Senate President Ignazio La Russa and Turkish Grand National Assembly Speaker Numan Kurtulmus to discuss regional relations and the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties.
