Senate Palestine Committee Condemns Israeli PM Remark on Greater Israel Vision

Amman: The Senate’s Palestine Committee on Wednesday denounced a remark by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in which he declared he is attached to the vision of a “Greater Israel,” which includes occupied Palestinian territory as well as parts of Egypt and Jordan.

According to Jordan News Agency, Committee Chairman Senator Mazen Darwazah and members issued a statement strongly condemning the statements made by the Israeli Prime Minister. They criticized Netanyahu’s ideological connection to the “Greater Israel” vision, which they argue includes lands from Egypt and Jordan. The committee views these statements as revealing expansionist ambitions that they reject.

The committee described the remarks as a direct threat to regional peace and security and a violation of international law. They emphasized that such statements undermine the rights of the Palestinian people, specifically their right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement also highlighted Jordan’s role under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II as the historic custodian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. It reiterated Jordan’s commitment to protecting the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre from any attempts to alter their identities.

The committee assured that Jordan and its people will remain steadfast in countering any ambitions that threaten the Kingdom’s sovereignty and dignity. The statement called on the international community and the UN Security Council to take responsibility in confronting aggressive policies and to support the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
