Senate Palestine Committee and German Ambassador Discuss Gaza Humanitarian Situation

Amman:The Senate Palestine Committee, under the leadership of Senator Mazen Darwazeh, held a meeting with German Ambassador to Jordan Bertram von Moltke to deliberate on regional political developments and the humanitarian challenges in the occupied Palestinian territories. The discussions also touched on international efforts aimed at safeguarding civilians and advancing a just and comprehensive peace.

According to Jordan News Agency, Darwazeh emphasized the longstanding "strategic" partnership between Amman and Berlin, acknowledging Germany's support in sectors such as water, education, and refugee response. He highlighted projects like the German-Jordanian University and Schneller School as examples of joint educational initiatives.

Darwazeh reiterated that lasting stability in the region hinges on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He supported His Majesty King Abdullah II's call at the UN General Assembly for accountability and an end to occupation, urging a halt to settlement expansions and violations of Jerusalem's holy sites' status quo.

On the topic of Gaza, Darwazeh called for unrestricted humanitarian access, sustained ceasefires, and protection for medical and relief workers. He praised Germany's participation in Jordanian air-drop operations and advocated for improved coordination to rehabilitate Gaza's healthcare infrastructure, supporting initiatives for evacuating critically ill Palestinian children for treatment in Jordan.

Ambassador von Moltke stressed the global significance of the Palestinian cause and noted the alignment of German and Jordanian positions on regional principles. He commended King Abdullah II's UN address as a significant intervention on the Palestinian issue and regional tensions.

The ambassador reaffirmed Germany's commitment to a two-state solution and the preservation of Jerusalem's historic and legal status quo. He condemned the destruction in Gaza and emphasized the need for open border crossings and humanitarian access, highlighting Germany's role in joint air-drops with Jordan and its support for UNRWA's relief efforts.

Von Moltke also expressed strong support for King Abdullah's initiative to evacuate sick and wounded Palestinian children for medical care in Jordan, applauding Jordan's leadership in humanitarian relief.
