Senate Media Committee meets State Minister

The Senate Media and National Guidance Committee on Tuesday met with Minister of State for Media Affairs and the Government Spokesperson, Faisal Shboul.

“The meeting aims to examine the government’s view and rationale on the public sector modernization map, especially the national media aspect, which included the establishment of the Ministry of Government Communication,” Committee Chairman, Senator Mohammad Momani, said.

The meeting is also part of the committee’s keenness to communicate, coordinate and consult with the government on various national issues, especially the media, Momani added.

He spoke about the history of the media sector in the Kingdom, including the official media, especially since 2003 when the Ministry of Information was abolished, and then the Minister of State for Media Affairs position was introduced, and at a stage there was only an official spokesperson to handle the Media field.

Momani stressed the importance of having a Minister of Media closely related to decision-making processes and departments in various state institutions, in order to have a complete picture to present to public opinion in a clear and timely manner.

He pointed out that the media faces challenges at the global level, not only at the local one, sometimes in a form of a “gap” between policy makers and media makers and those responsible for promoting and clarifying these policies, which is an “eternal and cross-border” suffering.

He stressed the importance of supporting the local media sector, as a sovereign sector that conveys the state’s message and policies.
