Senate Media Committee meets State Minister, 1st, final add

Minister Shboul, in turn, highlighted key features of the public sector modernization map, which came as a third stage after the two stages of political modernization and the vision of economic modernization, pointing out that the map included 3 main themes under which 7 titles fall, with the aim of achieving administrative renaissance.

He added that the map included the establishment of the Ministry of Government Communication, the idea of which emerged from 3 main themes: the absence of an alternative to a body coordinating government discourse since the abolition of the Ministry of Information in 2003, in addition to the development of means of communication and human communication in an unusual way, bypassing all laws and regulations in the world, as well as the media landscape.

Shboul explained that the media in the whole world is suffering and facing losses, and the same is true at the local level.

He noted that the national media landscape has become “painful”, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic and its impacts and the decline in its share in the advertising market, in favor of social media.

He said that there are about 250 media outlets registered with the Media Commission, all of them competing for a limited advertising market, indicating that there is no accurate figures of the advertising market due to the multiplicity of media and social media outlets.

He added that the media suffers from social media crowding out with regard to digital advertisements, which social media social media takes over, as the value of these advertisements is paid in hard currency and without sales tax, while advertisements for local media outlets are paid through the local currency in addition to sales tax.

For their part, Senators underscored the importance of the media sector, especially the official one, in conveying the state’s messages and policies, and reflecting the state’s image and the achievements of its institutions and individuals at the local and global levels.
