Senate head: Jordan keen on strategic ties with Iraq

Senate President Faisal Fayez on Tuesday reaffirmed Jordan’s keen interest in cementing the strategic relations with Iraq and providing all forms of support for Iraq to rebuild the country, restore security and face the various challenges.

He also told a visiting Iraqi delegation of lawmakers led by Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi that Jordan will stand by their country in the war on terrorism.

“We are proud of our brotherly, deep-rooted, historicl and strategic relations, which set a model for joint Arab action in various fields”, he said.

“We in Jordan believe that Iraq’s security and stability is a Jordanian interest, and we reject interference in its affairs and stand at the same distance from the various religious, ethnic and social components of Iraqi people and we support the country’s territorial integrity,” he said.

He stressed the importance of a successful political process process in Iraq based on concord and dialogue.

Fayez expressed hope for increased cooperation between Jordan and Iraq in political, economic and investment fields through the activation of bilateral agreements and removing trade barriers.

He said that tripartite Jordanian-Iraqi-Egyptian meetings are an “advanced” step to enhance the partnership between them in various fields, and reflect a genuine will to raise cooperation and achieve strategic integration between them.

The head of the Iraqi parliament called for concerted efforts to enhance relations, noting Jordan’s support of his country.
