Senate Committee Approves Amendments to Labor Law

Amman: The Senate Labor and Social Development Committee, led by Senator Issa Murad, has approved a draft law amending the Labor Law with specific amendments, as submitted by the Lower House of Parliament. The meeting, which included the presence of Minister of Labor Khaled Bakkar, focused on refining the legal framework governing labor relations.

According to Jordan News Agency, the draft law introduces significant regulatory measures designed to balance the dynamics between employers and employees. Senator Murad acknowledged the Ministry of Labor’s efforts in regulating the presence of migrant workers within the Jordanian labor market, emphasizing the importance of these amendments.

Key amendments include the unification of medical references for work-related injuries, the classification of occupational diseases as work-related injuries, and the extension of work-related injury provisions to workers not covered by social security. Furthermore, the draft law restructures employment regulations concerning migrant workers and establishes measures against violations of employment terms.

The law also aims to bolster protections for working women by extending maternity leave and safeguarding workers’ rights to sick leave, reflecting a comprehensive approach to improving labor conditions in the country.
