Amman: The Senate's Finance and Economy Committee has approved the draft general budget law for the 2026 fiscal year, following its receipt from the Lower House of Parliament. The decision was made during an evening meeting that took place after a prior session where the committee discussed the draft law with Finance Minister Abdelhakim Shibli in attendance.
According to Jordan News Agency, Committee Chair Rajai Muasher stated that the meeting involved a thorough review of the articles within the 2026 draft budget law. The committee examined how the budget allocations align with the Economic Modernization Vision and its executive program. Muasher highlighted that this discussion was part of a broader series of meetings where the committee evaluated plans, projects, and strategies from various ministries and their affiliated institutions. The focus was on ensuring consistency with the economic modernization roadmap and the public sector development plan.
Finance Minister Abdelhakim Shibli emphasized that the 2026 budget includes allocations for national projects that align with the Economic Modernization Vision's objectives. Key development projects identified include the Aqaba-Shidiyah railway in the transport sector, the National Water Carrier project in the water sector, and gas exploration initiatives in the energy sector. These projects, along with others, form part of the priority sectors targeted by the modernization roadmap.
