Amman: Jordan's Senate Palestine Committee and the French Ambassador to Jordan, Franck Gellet, engaged in discussions regarding political and humanitarian developments in the Palestinian territories, emphasizing the need for international efforts to end the war in Gaza and promote a two-state solution.
According to Jordan News Agency, during the meeting, committee chair Sen. Mazen Darwazeh highlighted the strong partnership between Jordan and France, fostered by His Majesty King Abdullah II and French President Emmanuel Macron. The discussion touched on shared positions on key regional issues, particularly opposing the forced displacement of Palestinians and efforts to undermine the Palestinian cause. Darwazeh commended the joint humanitarian initiatives aimed at delivering relief and medical aid to Gaza.
Darwazeh emphasized the urgency of international intervention to halt the war in Gaza and address Israeli violations, including incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, settlement expansion, and land confiscation. He also stressed the significance of the Hashemite Custodianship over holy sites in Jerusalem and called on France to leverage its influence within the European Union and the UN Security Council to support these efforts.
Additionally, Darwazeh advocated for the recognition of a Palestinian state and the revival of a political process grounded in the two-state solution, envisioning an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967, lines with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire, sustained humanitarian access, and continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
French Ambassador Gellet outlined France's stance on regional developments, underscoring the need to intensify efforts to alleviate humanitarian suffering and achieve a comprehensive peace. He reaffirmed France's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Jordan and acknowledged Jordan's role in promoting regional stability under King Abdullah II's leadership.
