Scattered Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Across Jordan

Amman:Heavy downpours and thunderstorms are forecast to intensify across eastern, central, and southern Jordan on Sunday afternoon. There are warnings of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, especially in the south and east, including Aqaba.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Jordan Meteorological Department has indicated that unstable weather conditions will persist throughout the day. Scattered showers are expected in southern and eastern regions, including Aqaba, along with occasional thunder and lightning.

Rainfall is anticipated to become more intense during the afternoon, potentially bringing heavy downpours to parts of the east, center, and south. Thunderstorms may also produce hail, which increases the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas.

Isolated showers could occur in northern regions, while southeasterly winds are expected to strengthen at intervals, with occasional strong gusts stirring dust across the Badia, reducing visibility.

The department has warned against approaching flood-prone valleys and areas where rainwater may accumulate, particularly in eastern and southern Jordan, including Aqaba. Additional warnings have been issued for thunderstorms, hail, and reduced visibility due to dust, especially along desert roads. Fog could develop over high mountain areas at night, and roads may become slippery when wet.

Sunday's temperatures are predicted to reach 31 degrees Celsius in East Amman and across the plains and 29 C in West Amman. Highs are expected to be 27 C in the northern highlands, 26 C in the Sharah highlands, and 33 C in the Badia. In the northern Jordan Valley, temperatures will climb to 37 C, 36 C in the southern Jordan Valley, 34 C at the Dead Sea, and 32 C in Aqaba.

Unsettled conditions will continue on Monday, with scattered showers anticipated in parts of eastern and southeastern Jordan. Some rainfall may be heavy and accompanied by thunder, lightning, and hail. Winds will remain southeasterly and occasionally active before shifting northwesterly in the evening.

The weather is expected to stabilize on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing moderate autumn conditions across most regions, with clouds at varying altitudes and moderate northwesterly winds.
