Safadi greets Jordanian women on IWD occasion

Amman: Lower House Speaker, Ahmed Safadi, and Parliament members on Wednesday congratulated Jordanian women on the occasion of International Women’s Day (IWD), lauding His Majesty King Abdullah II’s attention to achieve their empowerment.

In a statement, Safadi noted Jordanian women made “remarkable” achievements in the various positions, adding that over years of hard work, women proved their capability to positively influence their communities.

Safadi said Jordan is marking this occasion and continuing its march with resolve based on His Majesty’s vision, which clearly defined national priorities in the next stage.

In this regard, he noted Jordan’s political, economic and administrative modernization paths primarily seek to serve development goals and empower the Kingdom’s youth and women, which would help empower new leaders to vigorously run state institutions and have an active presence in Parliament and future governments.

Referring to a slew of reforms in Jordan’s political system at the beginning of its bicentennial, he noted the largest package aimed to empower women and youth, in a bid to expand base of popular participation in decision-making.

Safadi said women parliamentarians demonstrated a “high” capability in carrying out their oversight and legislation tasks, referring in this regard to their “great effort” in House Women and Family Affairs Committee and Jordanian Women Parliamentarians Forum .
