Safadi, German parliamentary delegation talk ties, cooperation

Lower House Speaker, Ahmed Safadi, stressed the “deep-rooted” Jordanian-German relations in all fields, especially in parliamentary areas, stressing the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation at various levels to serve common interests. Safadi made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday, with a German parliamentary delegation representing Finance Committee of the Bavarian State Parliament, headed by MP Josef Zellmeier, in the presence of the German Ambassador to Jordan, Bernhard Kampmann. Safadi valued positions of the German government and parliament in supporting the Palestinian cause and their assistance for the Kingdom in the Syrian refugee file. In this regard, he pointed to burdens and efforts borne by Jordan due to repercussions of Middle East situation, especially the influx of refugee waves. During the meeting, Safadi updated the German delegation on Jordan’s political, economic and administrative system under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s directives, pointing to the recent constitutional amendments and reform laws that were endorsed to support comprehensive modernization paths. Stressing centrality of the Palestinian issue, Safadi noted failure to find a just solution to it and right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state is a “major” reason for the region’s instability. The meeting went over multiple issues of common interest, especially in economic and political fields, according to a House statement. For his part, German delegation’s head lauded bilateral relations at various levels, which witnessed “remarkable” development, stressing the importance of developing ties to serve common interests. Zellmeier said Germany, as well as the European Union, values Jordan’s role in the region, which constitutes a “point of balance and stability”, commending reforms implemented by Jordan, and appreciating the Kingdom’s efforts in providing services and receiving refugees despite difficulties facing Jordanian economy and lack of resources. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Lower House Finance Committee, Nimr Sulaihat, lauded German support to Jordan in various fields and its support for the Kingdom’s efforts in all fields. Jordan, Sulaihat added, has “come a long way” on the democracy path and a “qualitative” shift is made in the legislations regulating the Kingdom’s political life.
