RSS, SESAME, and ICTP Strengthen Scientific Cooperation with Renewed Agreement

Allan:Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), has renewed a tripartite cooperation agreement with the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) and the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). This agreement reaffirms their shared commitment to advancing scientific research and expanding opportunities for scientists in Jordan and the region.

According to Jordan News Agency, the renewed agreement was signed on October 28, 2026, at SESAME during an international symposium on The Role of Research and Technology Infrastructures in Science Diplomacy. The event gathered scientists, diplomats, and representatives from international and regional institutions to discuss the role of scientific cooperation in strengthening international partnerships and supporting peace.

During the signing ceremony, Princess Sumaya stressed the importance of sustained international cooperation in strengthening research capabilities and providing opportunities for young scientists. Professor Khaled Toukan, Director General of SESAME, emphasized the importance of international cooperation in advancing scientific research, while Professor Atish Dabholkar, Director of ICTP, highlighted the value of partnerships in supporting scientific talent and expanding access to scientific knowledge.

The renewed agreement builds on a partnership first established on September 14, 2021, aiming to promote scientific research, education, and communication in Jordan and the Middle East and North Africa region. It continues to support the development of scientific capabilities, particularly in synchrotron physics, and provides opportunities for training and collaboration.

Overall, the agreement underscores the ongoing importance of collaboration between RSS, SESAME, and ICTP to connect scientific institutions, develop the next generation of researchers, and strengthen the region's participation in international scientific networks.
