Royal Medical Services Advances Genomic Medicine in Jordan

Accra:The Royal Medical Services' Military Oncology Centre has reached a significant milestone in genomic medicine and advanced molecular diagnostics by implementing state-of-the-art genetic testing and cancer diagnostic technologies within the country.

According to Jordan News Agency, the center has established Jordan's first fully integrated in-house system for Whole Exome Sequencing (WES). This development makes it the only laboratory in the Kingdom capable of completing the entire testing process, from sample processing to final report certification, without the need to send samples or genetic data abroad.

Additionally, the facility has successfully processed its first local Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) sample and introduced liquid biopsy technology. This innovation allows for the detection of cancer-related genetic mutations, enabling doctors to provide more targeted treatments.

Dr. Rame Khasawneh, head of the military oncology labs and senior consultant in molecular pathology and genetics, emphasized that the achievement highlights the growing national capabilities in genomic medicine, enhancing the accuracy of diagnostics.

Dr. Ahmad Bawa'neh, director of the Military Oncology Centre, noted that these advancements align with the Royal Medical Services' vision to invest in local talent, modernize specialized medical care, and bolster Jordan's status as a regional leader in medical innovation.
