Amman: A royal decree has been issued approving a comprehensive air services agreement with Iraq, modernizing a framework that had remained unchanged since 1953 and creating new commercial opportunities for carriers from both nations.
According to Jordan News Agency, the updated accord, published Sunday in the Official Gazette, represents a significant upgrade to bilateral aviation relations, introducing contemporary provisions on market access, code-sharing arrangements, and competitive pricing structures.
Captain Haitham Misto, Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission chief, and Bankin Rikani, who heads Iraq’s aviation authority and serves as Minister of Construction and Housing, signed the agreement in Baghdad on January 30.
Aviation officials note the pact aligns with both countries’ national air transport strategies while incorporating key International Civil Aviation Organization guidelines designed to enhance operational efficiency and passenger connectivity.
Industry analysts see the agreement as strengthening broader economic ties between the neighboring countries, potentially increasing traffic rights and expanding service options for travelers throughout the region.
