Remittances to Jordan Rise by 12.4 Percent in First Quarter

Amman: Total remittances from Jordanian expatriates to the Kingdom reached $1.23 billion in the first quarter of the year, marking a 12.4 percent increase, according to preliminary data released by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ). Outward remittances during this period also saw an increase, rising by 13.6 percent to $477.4 million. According to Jordan News Agency, the largest share of incoming remittances originated from the United Arab Emirates, contributing 22.9 percent. This was followed by the United States with 19.2 percent, Saudi Arabia at 18.3 percent, Qatar at 9.5 percent, and Kuwait at 5.4 percent. Remittances from other countries comprised 24.7 percent of the total. In terms of outgoing remittances, Egypt was the primary destination, receiving 40.6 percent. Bangladesh followed with 11.9 percent, and the Philippines accounted for 5.0 percent. Other countries received 42.5 percent of the total outward remittances, as revealed by the CBJ figures.
