Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Southern and Eastern Jordan

Amman:Showers and occasional thunderstorms are predicted for southern and eastern Jordan on Monday, with some areas experiencing brief heavy rainfall during the afternoon, as noted by the Jordan Meteorological Department.

According to Jordan News Agency, moderate weather will be predominant across most regions, with varying cloud altitudes. Rain in the south and east may intensify at times in the afternoon, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and hail. Later in the day, showers might extend to limited parts of the east-central regions, while light rain could affect northern areas by evening.

Winds will be moderate, shifting from southeasterly to southwesterly, becoming active at times before turning northwesterly in the evening. The department has issued warnings of possible flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, especially in southern and eastern Jordan. It cautioned about reduced visibility due to dust, particularly in the Badia, and advised against thunderstorms, hail, and slippery roads in rain-affected areas.

Residents are urged to avoid valleys and floodwater channels in the southern and eastern regions. The department explained that uneven rainfall is common during autumn weather instability, with isolated areas experiencing heavy thunderstorms over short periods, while nearby locations may see little to no rain. The public is encouraged to stay updated with weather forecasts and be alert to sudden flooding.

Temperatures on Monday are expected to reach 29 degrees Celsius in East Amman and the plains, 27 C in West Amman, 26 C in the northern highlands, and 25 C in the Sharah highlands. The Badia will see temperatures of 30 C, with 34 C in the northern Jordan Valley and at the Dead Sea, 35 C in the southern Jordan Valley, and 33 C in Aqaba.

On Tuesday, temperatures will decrease, bringing moderate autumn conditions across the country, with clouds at varying altitudes. A slight temperature rise is anticipated on Wednesday, with the possibility of scattered evening showers and occasional thunder in parts of the northeastern Badia. Temperatures will dip again on Thursday to below seasonal averages, resulting in pleasant weather in the highlands and moderate conditions elsewhere, accompanied by low clouds and occasionally active southwesterly winds.
