QU Achieves Outstanding Results in Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2023

Qatar University (QU) achieved distinguished results in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking 2023. THE Impact Rankings measure global universities success in delivering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The 2023 Impact Rankings in its fifth edition includes 1,591 universities from 112 countries and regions.

QUs most prominent results include placing 99th in SDG2 Zero Hunger, which focuses on creating a world free of hunger; 86th in SDG4 Quality Education; 77th in SDG8 Decent Work and Economic Growth; 11th in SDG10 Reduced Inequalities, which aims to reduce inequality within and among countries; 49th in SDG14 Life below Water, which aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development; and finally 48th in SDG15 Life on Land, which aims to “protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.” QU President Dr. Omar Al Ansari, commented on the achievement saying, “This ranking demonstrates Qatar Universitys commitment to the SDGs and highlights our impact on a global scale. The University consistently realigns its goals to meet the needs of the State of Qatar, and the needs of the global community to insure that through our dynamic and diverse resources we are tackling todays challenges efficiently. Ranking 11th in the world on SDG10 gives me a sense of pride in the fact that the University continues to pursue excellence to meet national and international needs.” Director of the International Affairs Office at QU Cesar Wazen also commented saying, “We have a great interest in this specific ranking as its pilot was first announced at Qatar University during the emerging economies summit in 2019 and second as it deals with SDGs and their implementation at universities. Our scores for this year are a closer reflection of the work we do at the university especially on societal impact.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), using carefully calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.
