Al-Sharq newspaper said in its editorial that with the escalation of war and confrontations on the Lebanese front on Monday, and Israel launching a wave of intense airstrikes that resulted in the death of hundreds of people in a single day, forcing tens of thousands of families to flee from southern Lebanon, the entire Middle East is now threatened with slipping further into chaos. This comes as the right-wing extremist government of the Israeli entity, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, insists on dragging the region into a full-scale war, especially in light of the ongoing aggression and war of genocide against the Palestinian people.
Since the first day of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, the State of Qatar has been keen to pursue de-escalation and calm, aiming for a complete cessation of the war, in order to stop the bloodshed and prevent the region from sliding into a wider circle of violence that would harm the peoples of the region, already exhausted by wars and conflicts. kh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, have led an intensive diplomatic effort with continuous communications with partners and many regional and international officials. The goal has been to seek an immediate ceasefire, protect civilians, secure the release of hostages and work to limit the expansion of violence and conflict in the region, fully aware of the catastrophic consequences and severe repercussions if the war continues and expands regionally, the newspaper noted.
The State of Qatar, based on its firm belief and unwavering conviction that dialogue is the only way to resolve crises and conflicts, has consistently called on all parties to de-escalate, maintain calm, and exercise the utmost restraint, Al-Sharq added.
The newspaper concluded its editorial by saying that in light of the new developments on the Lebanese-Israeli front, there is an urgent need today for immediate and effective international ac
tion to halt the ongoing escalation and prevent the Middle East from slipping into a full-scale war. This will not happen without stopping the war in Gaza and finding a real and just solution to the Palestinian cause.
In another matter, The Peninsula newspaper, in its editorial today, highlighted the agreement signed by the Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, Silatech, and Unicefs Generation Unlimited (GenU) to train and mobilise 565,670 young people to access education, tackle climate change, and become community volunteers and entrepreneurs driving sustainable development efforts across Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt.
It noted that Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, from its start, has done tremendous job across the globe to promote and protect education particularly in restive regions and marginalised communities.
The newspaper said in its editorial titled “Greater Cause “that the new three-year, $33 million partnership with equal contributions from Unicef, EAA and Silatech, will support access to educ
ation and empower young volunteers and entrepreneurs with the training, resources and mentorship they need to take climate action.
Under its mission, EAA is continuously transforming lives through education, empowering the most vulnerable and marginalised populations. The UNs 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have provided EAA with the platform and baseline to do just that, converging capital, infrastructure, information, and environment for a better world with a brighter future, The Peninsula added.
