Amman: Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) to enhance educational opportunities and support the development of Jordanian youth. This partnership seeks to provide “high-quality” education tailored to meet the demands of the labor market by focusing on academic research cooperation.
According to Jordan News Agency, the MoU was signed by Dr. Khaled Touqan, Chairman of JAEC, and Dr. Wijdan Abu Haija, President of PSUT. This agreement outlines plans for collaborative research and development activities in critical fields such as energy engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
During the signing ceremony, Dr. Touqan highlighted the MoU as a “strategic” initiative aimed at boosting cooperation between Jordan’s academic and national institutions. He emphasized that this collaboration would pave the way for advancing scientific research and innovation, particularly in energy engineering and cybersecurity, thereby empowering Jordanian youth and supporting “sustainable” development within the Kingdom.
Dr. Touqan also underscored JAEC’s “pivotal” role in national economic and social development. He mentioned the commission’s efforts in utilizing nuclear energy for electricity generation, water desalination, and other peaceful applications, stressing the importance of research, academic training, and nuclear and radiation investment.
Dr. Abu Haija expressed “pride” in this collaboration, which aligns with PSUT’s vision and mission. She noted the university’s commitment to building partnerships with both national and international institutions to foster a platform for science and knowledge. Furthermore, she highlighted the MoU’s significance in the academic and research sectors, citing JAEC’s longstanding efforts to harness nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and to leverage domestic resources.
The memorandum signifies the commitment of both PSUT and JAEC to provide “qualitative” educational and research opportunities, contributing to Jordan’s aspirations for developmental and technological advancement.
