PSD marks International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction

The Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Thursday celebrated International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR), which falls on October 13 annually, to promote the global culture of concept of disasters and crises and reduce resulting risks.

The ceremony, attended by PSD Director, Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah, came under the theme: “Early Warning and Early Action for All,” to emphasize the importance of anticipatory action concept and its critical role in reducing risks of emergency accidents and disasters, and the citizens’ role to respond during such incidents.

On the sidelines of the celebration, Maaytah checked on the key operational resources, marine boats, and equipment recently entered into service to operate at Dead Sea Martyrs Civil Defence Centre.

He also checked on diving, rescue and ambulance teams trained in the center to work with high readiness to face dangers of all kinds.

During a speech delivered on this occasion, Civil Defense director, Brig. Gen. Hatem Yaqoub, highlighted work mechanisms and response to disasters and crises in the Kingdom, run by a national system, aimed to achieve coordination and integration.

This process is implemented, in accordance with the governing rules and plans in place, and in partnership with the relevant ministries and institutions, to reduce disaster risks and its potential negative consequences that may pose a threat to the population, he noted.

The attendees watched an operational exercise at Dead Sea Martyrs Civil Defense Center, which featured many field activities and a presentation of the latest equipment used in civil defense operations.
