Amman: HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and Chair of the Board of Trustees at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, has highlighted the importance of equipping Jordanian youth with advanced technological skills to promote a robust nuclear security ecosystem and culture.
According to Jordan News Agency, Arafat Awajan, vice president of RSS for Scientific Research, spoke on behalf of Her Royal Highness at the launch of a new national training program. The program, initiated by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) in collaboration with the RSS and international partners, seeks to build national capacity through focused youth engagement. Princess Sumaya expressed pride in supporting initiatives that enhance nuclear security awareness.
Addressing a gathering of university presidents and experts from the EMRC and RSS, the speech underscored that such programs embody the Hashemite vision of investing in the intellect of Jordanians. It was highlighted that youth represent the country’s most renewable resource, and their empowerment through knowledge and scientific tools is critical for overcoming challenges and fostering a prosperous future.
Ziyad Saaida, Chairman of the EMRC Board of Commissioners, confirmed the commission’s dedication to nurturing a national nuclear security culture based on awareness and quality training. The program will offer 10 specialized training courses for university students, addressing essential topics such as radiation safety, legislative and regulatory frameworks, radiological protection, and emergency response systems.
University presidents expressed gratitude for Princess Sumaya’s sponsorship and leadership in enhancing higher education and bridging the gap between academic research and practical application.
Attendees commended the collaborative efforts of the EMRC and RSS in empowering Jordanian youth to meaningfully engage in nuclear security and play a crucial role within the national safety framework.
The program aims to develop a generation of knowledgeable and capable Jordanian youth, fostering a sustainable national culture of nuclear security that ensures the safe, responsible use of nuclear technology.
It also signifies a new chapter in establishing a strong national partnership between regulatory authorities and academic institutions, aligning with Jordan’s vision to be a regional model for the safe use of technology, resource protection, and the promotion of societal stability and sustainable development.
