Amman: Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein attended the 121st Hashemite Scientific Council, titled "The Prophetic Sunnah as the Second Source: In It Are Clarification and Elucidation," at the Islamic Cultural Center Hall of the King Abdullah I Mosque.
According to Jordan News Agency, the session featured speakers including Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs Mohammad Al-Khalayleh and Younes Al-Sabari, Head of the Local Scientific Council in the Quneitra Region of the Kingdom of Morocco. Al-Khalayleh highlighted the significant role of the Prophetic Sunnah as a primary source of Islamic legislation, emphasizing the duty of scholars and religious institutions to present it correctly to the public.
He stressed the necessity of maintaining the objectives of Islamic law (Maqasid Al-Sharia) while balancing textual evidence with sound understanding, to preserve religious constants and address contemporary developments. Al-Sabari referred to the Prophetic Sunnah as the "system of religion" and its protective fortress, urging more scholarly and methodological focus on its study. He acknowledged Jordan's efforts under Hashemite leadership to revive scientific councils and enhance the Sunnah's role in public life.
The Ministry of Awqaf organizes the annual Hashemite Scientific Councils during Ramadan under Royal patronage. These councils aim to elucidate Islamic rulings, promote moderate and balanced thought, and tackle contemporary issues, engaging scholars, preachers, and intellectuals from Jordan and the broader Islamic community.
The session saw the presence of Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court Yousef Hassan Al-Issawi, Chief Islamic Justice Abdul Hafiz Rabta, Royal Hashemite Court imam Ahmad Al-Khalayleh, along with various officials, muftis, Sharia judges, imams, and female preachers.
