Prince El Hassan Calls for Human-Centric Vision for Mediterranean Peace and Stability

Amman:His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal emphasized the necessity of adopting a human-centered approach to enhance peace and stability across the Mediterranean region. He underscored the importance of focusing on human dignity, rights, justice, and cooperation among peoples during his keynote address titled "The Mediterranean A Sea for Peace" at the Euro-MENA Dialogue.

According to Jordan News Agency, the conference, held in Amman, was organized by the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) in collaboration with the Euro-MENA Initiative for Democracy and Development (EMI). It brought together diplomats, experts, and civil society leaders to discuss the challenges facing Europe and the MENA region, including political, economic, and demographic changes.

Prince El Hassan highlighted the need for a robust partnership between the regions, rooted in shared responsibility. He stressed the importance of integrating human dignity into policymaking at both regional and international levels and empowering the youth to influence the future of their communities.

Reflecting on his 1981 initiative to the United Nations General Assembly for a new international humanitarian order, Prince El Hassan reaffirmed that success should be measured by the ability to prevent conflicts and address their root causes, not just by crisis response. He advocated for an ethical framework to promote peace and protect civilians, refugees, and natural resources.

On the issue of forced displacement, he warned against leaving host countries to manage humanitarian crises alone and called for ongoing international support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). He also emphasized creating conditions for the voluntary return of Syrian refugees.

Prince El Hassan urged the development of an Arab-led regional architecture based on economic integration, mutual security, and a just resolution to the Palestinian issue. He called on Europe to support a peace process grounded in international law, rather than succumbing to power dynamics and prolonged conflict, aiming to transform the Mediterranean into a region of peace, stability, and human dignity.
