Aqaba: Police have reopened a cold case involving the disappearance of a young woman in 2008, uncovering that she had been murdered by her brother, according to the Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Monday.
According to Jordan News Agency, the PSD spokesperson stated that a joint investigation team from the Criminal Investigation Department and the Southern Region Security Command reopened the file of a missing Arab national born in 1991, who had been reported missing in Aqaba since 2008.
Following renewed investigations and the gathering of new evidence, suspicions arose that the woman had been killed. Her brother was identified as the main suspect and taken into custody.
During questioning, the suspect confessed to fatally stabbing his sister during a dispute and then burying her body in an uninhabited area.
Authorities, under the supervision of the public prosecutor, searched the location identified by the suspect and recovered human remains, which were sent to the forensic laboratory for DNA testing to confirm the victim’s identity.
The suspect has been referred to the Grand Criminal Court prosecutor, who ordered his detention on charges of premeditated murder.
