PM Underscores Joint Effort with Private Sector in Economic Modernization

Amman: Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan emphasized that the government and the private sector are “partners in one enterprise,” working to implement the economic modernization vision and foster the growth of the national economy.

According to Jordan News Agency, during a meeting with commercial sector representatives organized by the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of the trade and services sector as a crucial economic lever, noting that it is the largest employer and accounts for two-thirds of the economy. He stressed the necessity of enabling its growth and expansion to achieve the goals of the economic modernization vision.

The Prime Minister tasked the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply with organizing monthly meetings with ministers, relevant institutions, and stakeholders, with a “clear and specific” joint agenda, to find solutions and build on initiatives to benefit the national economy. He pledged the government’s commitment to finding solutions in true partnership with the private sector and all relevant entities, emphasizing openness to proposals aimed at developing and enhancing project capabilities.

The government’s strategy involves multiple fronts, with the economic modernization scheme being the first priority. He explained that since taking office, the government has been consulting with economic sectors to set priorities and requirements for an executive program with clear timelines by 2025. On another front, the government has been holding monthly cabinet meetings in governorates, with the participation of elected bodies and representatives from chambers of industry and commerce, to devise a development model for each governorate.

The Prime Minister pointed out incentives offered to various sectors such as real estate, vehicles, export profits, and tax and customs reconciliations, which have addressed many issues and provided an opportunity to evaluate conditions and formulate sound policies.

Addressing regional challenges, the Prime Minister expressed hope for a better 2025, with Jordan overcoming regional conditions from previous years and the aggression on Gaza ending soon. He advocated for accelerating aid to Gaza, advancing along a political path to achieve stability and security in the region, and overcoming economic repercussions.

He reiterated Jordan’s support for the Syrian people and respect for their choices, noting that joint technical teams in trade, transport, and energy are working on practical steps to bolster cooperation between Jordan and Syria, with the private sector playing a key role in this effort.

Regarding domestic and foreign investment, the Prime Minister mentioned upcoming high-value, job-generating projects in water, railways, transport, and infrastructure sectors, with details to be announced at the appropriate time this year.
