PM receives NCHR 2021 report

Amman: Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh on Sunday received a copy of the National Center for Human Rights’ 2021 annual report on the state of human rights in the Kingdom.

In a meeting with the NCHR Chair of the Board of Trustees, Samar El-Hajj Hassan, in which ministers and officials from the Center were present, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further developing and enhancing Jordan’s human rights and basic freedoms system.

He further stated that the government fully backs the center’s autonomy and does not interfere in its operations in any way, allowing it to fulfill its role and national mission of ensuring that human rights are respected.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government is actively working to improve its cooperation with the NCHR and carry out the recommendations and observations made in the report in accordance with the law.

El-Hajj Hassan has voiced a need for greater NCHR-government collaboration and synergy in advancing human rights as guaranteed by domestic and international law and covenants.

The annual report focuses on three main areas: civil and political rights, economic, social, and cultural rights, and the rights of vulnerable groups.
