PM receives energy ministers of Egypt, Syria and Lebanon

Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh received on Wednesday Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla, Syrian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Bassam Tohme, and Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Raymond Ghajar, in the presence of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati.

Khasawneh welcomed the meeting of the energy ministers of the four countries in Amman to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy and the delivery of Egyptian gas to Lebanon through Jordan and Syria, and the possibility of expanding this cooperation to include Iraq.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of these projects, and their role in promoting pan-Arab solidarity, cooperation, and integration in a manner that brings benefit and interest to countries and their peoples.

He pointed out that there are broader areas of cooperation between the four countries in the sectors of energy, agriculture and logistics. He said that the Jordanian government, under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, is keen to provide the support that Lebanon needs to overcome the challenges and exceptional circumstances it is going through, including in particular energy challenges.

The premier also expressed hope that Syria would restore normalcy and be re-linked with its Arab sphere.

Khasawneh was briefed by the ministers on the status of the infrastructure necessary to transport natural gas from Egypt to Lebanon via the Arab Gas Pipeline, passing through Jordan and Syria, in addition to some technical and contractual matters that will be agreed upon in an ministerial meeting that will be held in the coming weeks.
