Amman: Prime Minister’s initiative to hold cabinet sessions in various governorates has been deemed essential for unified development planning across the region. The sessions aim to address local needs directly and ensure that development plans are aligned with the specific requirements of each area.
According to Jordan News Agency, Minister of Awqaf and Acting Minister of Education Mohammad Khalaileh announced the completion of four new schools by next year, along with classroom expansions in two existing schools and maintenance for 11 others. Future educational projects include four additional schools, expansions in three existing ones, and maintenance for five schools by 2027. Additionally, a technical college affiliated with Al-Balqa Applied University is being established in Jerash.
In the realm of social development, Minister Wafa Bani Mustafa revealed that 20 housing units for underprivileged families are currently under construction, with aid programs already benefiting over 7,000 families. The minister also announced plans for 62 more housing units and ongoing support for income-generating initiatives through loans and grants aimed at families and youth.
Transport and tourism sectors are also seeing significant advancements. Minister of Transport Wissam Tahtamouni stated that the first phase of a project to restructure intergovernorate public transport has commenced. Covering Irbid, Salt, Karak, and Jerash, the project includes electronic fare systems and GPS tracking, with services operating from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. at a cost of JD12.9 million. Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism Lina Annab outlined plans to establish an eco-friendly agricultural-tourism village, rehabilitate the Jerash archaeological site for accessibility, and renovate historic homes and heritage sites.
In agriculture and environment, Minister Khaled Hneifat highlighted ongoing projects such as agricultural lending, rainwater harvesting, irrigation channel rehabilitation, rural development, and reforestation. Future initiatives include establishing a tissue culture lab, protecting forests, and supporting women and poor families through agricultural employment and entrepreneurship. Minister of Environment Muawieh Radaideh discussed the launch of an electronic tracking system for wastewater tankers, monitoring water quality at seven sites, and implementing awareness programs to reduce littering in tourist areas. He also announced a pilot project for sustainable agriculture at Jerash University.
Health sector improvements were also highlighted by Minister Feras Hawari, who mentioned the construction of a new comprehensive health center in Jerash with a JD1.7 million budget, set for completion next year. Upgrades are underway at Jerash Government Hospital and several health centers, with future plans including hospital expansion and the construction of a new health center in Al-Mushairfa by 2027.
Lastly, the youth and sports sector is set for development with Minister Yazan Shdeifat announcing the construction of a semi-Olympic indoor swimming pool, new youth centers, and park facilities, all expected to be completed by 2027.
