PLO warns of reigniting situation in Jerusalem

A Palestinian senior official on Sunday warned that the situation in occupied Jerusalem would reignited, due to the settlers’ intention to organize a Flag Dance parade around the Old City and its gates on Thursday.

“The (Israeli) occupation is working hard to implement its expansionist, settlement and Judaization plans, displacing citizens from the Batn al-Hawa and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhoods in Jerusalem and expanding settlements,” Azzam Ahmad, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said in a statement.

He added that the occupation government seeks to complicate matters and blow up the situation against the continuing international efforts to calm the situation in the Palestinian land.

Ahmad indicated that there are positive attitudes from the international community on the Palestinian issue, including the need to preserve the two-state solution, in addition to the remarkable development of the US Congress, and its members’ demand to stop military aid to Israel and impose sanctions on it.

On the other hand, Ahmad said that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas decided to invite the PLO’s Executive Committee to hold a meeting on Monday to discuss developments on the field and political moves in this regard.

He noted that the meeting will discuss developments in the Holy City, the occupation attacks taking place there, the diplomatic movement, and “enhancing Arab efforts regarding the rights of our people and the reunification of the Palestinian parties.”
