Per capita electric power consumption up 1.4pct

Per capita electric power consumption increased from 1,551 kilowatt/hour in 2020 to 1,572 in 2021, edging up by 1.4 percent, according to Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) figures.

The data released Monday showed that electric power generated from stations amounted to 19,224 gigawatt/hour (GWh) in 2021, against 18,813 in 2020, a rise of 2.18 percent.

Imported electric power inched up by 3.73 percent from 380.6 GWh to 394.8 recorded last year, the statistics showed.

Distribution electric loss decreased from 13.48 to 13.32 percent. Similarly, traditional power sources’ generative capacity retreated from 4,000 GWh to 3,997; however, renewable’s capacity went from 1,424 GWh to 1,579, up 10.88 percent.

The figures showed that mineral rights granted in 2020 totaled only one, but soared by a major 700 percent to 8 in 2021.

Licenses granted in the energy and minerals sector topped 6,254 in 2021, distributed as the following: 9 for renewable power generation, 42 for public and private electric charging stations, 229 for workers in sustainable energy, 160 for public transformer stations, 1,548 for radiological and nuclear professions, 186 for quarries, 1,822 for mineral exports and 2,248 for imports, 8 for mining, and 2 for excavations.
