Petra: Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Fares Braizat on Sunday engaged with the administrative body of the Petra Camel Owners Cooperative to explore ways to boost partnerships with local associations and support initiatives centered on sustainable development and community-based tourism in the region.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting, attended by board members, focused on enhancing the association's role in delivering an authentic tourism experience that mirrors local heritage and Bedouin culture. Discussions included organizing events and activities related to camels and local traditions, and developing the association's products and services to add economic and tourism value, thereby increasing the participation of the local community and visitors.
In a separate discussion with the Nabi Harun (Aaron) Agricultural Cooperative Society, the focus was on supporting the agricultural sector as a vital contributor to tourism. Efforts to promote the cultivation of native plants threatened with extinction, such as juniper and oak, aim to aid climate change adaptation and expand green cover in the region.
The meeting also looked at enhancing the association's agricultural products, such as juniper molasses, and increasing the production and awareness of aromatic plants among residents and visitors. Additionally, there was discussion on establishing agricultural tourism trails in areas with unique natural views, linking agricultural and tourism aspects to enrich the visitor experience.
Braizat emphasized that partnership with local associations is crucial for achieving sustainable development and strengthening the cultural and environmental presence of the Petra region. He commended the role of cooperative societies in supporting community tourism and preserving the area's natural and cultural heritage.
