Norwegian envoy checks on projects, initiatives of charities in Karak

Norway’s Ambassador to Jordan, Espen Lindback, on Tuesday opened an exhibition of traditional products and handicrafts at the Zahum Charity Association in the southern governorate of Karak.

During the opening ceremony, Lindback was briefed on productive projects and voluntary initiatives, implemented by charities in Karak.

Lindback expressed his satisfaction in the level of different crafts and products implemented by the associations, which contribute to developing and growing of women’s skills to develop economic life and improve the standard of living of their families. He underlined the importance of the participatory process between Jordan and Norway, especially enabling civil society institutions.

Al Hayat Centre for Civil Society Development (Rased) Director General Amer Bani Amer, stressed the center’s keenness to enhance partnership and coordination with various institutions and civil society organizations in various governorates in order to assume its role towards their local communities.

Zahum Charity Association president, Abdul Rahman Malahmeh, highlighted Norway’s efforts towards civil society institutions, and its support within the partnership with the Rased Center.

He also discussed effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on charities, underlining charities’ role in raising the level of social integration, supporting various groups and economically enabling the largest segment in order to mitigate poverty and unemployment.
