The National Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases Centre (NEIDC) has stressed the importance of raising awareness among health workers and citizens on the monkeypox disease.
In a statement released Sunday, the centre said the epidemiological situation related to the disease was discussed, to develop prevention procedures and a mechanism for dealing with suspected cases.
To orchestrate efforts at the national level, the statement said the centre’s coordination meeting brought together the concerned communicable diseases’ directorates and the Ministry of Health’s central labs.
The stakeholders agreed on the mechanism to monitor and report possible cases, and the method of administering and transferring samples to the ministry’s central labs in a safe manner, the statement noted.
