NCHR official discusses joint cooperation with Australian envoy

Facilitator of National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR), Reem Abu Dalbouh, on Wednesday discussed with Australian Ambassador to Jordan, Bernard Lynch, the bilateral relations and the existing joint cooperation in the human rights field.

During the meeting, Abu Dalbouh briefed Lynch on NCHR’s work mechanism and its position on some laws and issues related to human rights in the Kingdom.

Jordan, she said, is carrying out His Majesty King Abdullah II’s directives to modernize its legislative system, in a way that enshrines human rights, guarantees freedom of opinion and expression, and protects the most vulnerable groups.

She reviewed part of NCHR’s daily field work, in light of complaints sent to it, or monitored at media outlets, especially rights of inmates in reform and rehabilitation centers, right to peaceful assembly, and other civil, political and economic rights.

For his part, Lynch stressed the “strong” bilateral relations in all fields, pointing out that his country has “historic, longstanding” ties with the Kingdom for decades.

Lynch presented NCHR with a book entitled: “Bonds of Fire”, which was recently published with photographs documenting nearly a century of Australian-Jordanian relations, and shedding light on historical stages since the era of Great Arab Revolt.
