The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture revealed that the Kingdom achieved 100% self-sufficiency in producing melons with annual production quantities exceeding 55,000 tons in an area of about 2,389 hectares in various regions.
As part of its “Harvest Season” initiative to promote local agriculture and support farmers, the ministry highlighted the melon production of different regions. Riyadh emerged as the leading producer with an annual output of 42,175 tons, followed by Qassim with 6,137 tons, Madinah 2,542 tons, Hail 1,759 tons, Najran 1,023 tons, Al-Jouf 770 tons, the Eastern Region 560 tons, and Tabuk 490 tons.
The Harvest Season campaign aims to introduce various types of local fruits and their abundant times in different seasons throughout the year, to achieve many goals that fall within the ministry’s policy to promote the production and use of domestic products
