The Ministry of Culture announced on Wednesday the opening of the National Museum in Sana ‘a for visitors for two weeks starting on Saturday, May 20, to visit exhibitions held by the Public Authority for Antiquities and Museums in the museum gallery on the occasion of the International Day of Museums (May 18).

On Thursday, the National Museum of Sana ‘a will hold a celebratory event that will include the opening of 3 exhibitions. The first exhibition will include approximately 800 seized and recovered artifacts from 2006 to 2023. The second exhibition will include artifacts from Jawf province. The third exhibition will include photographs of a number of smuggled and stolen artifacts displayed in museums and international auctions.

The Minister of Culture, Abdullah Ahmed Al-Kibsi, told Saba, that “Yemeni museums were subjected, within the direct and indirect targeting of Yemeni antiquities and civilization, to the most heinous aggression in history, which caused severe damage to them.”

The Minister referred to the Regional Museum’s exposure to archaeology in Dhamar as a simple example of the heinous criminality of this aggression against Yemen’s heritage, culture and civilization.

He emphasized that the National Salvation Government in Sana’a, represented by the Ministry of Culture, was able to preserve the museums under its control during the years of aggression, as it preserved the holdings they contained, as well as inventorying and documenting them.

He pointed out that four Yemeni museums out of 21 are still open to receive visitors despite the aggression that caused destruction, damage, looting and theft of a number of museums in a number of provinces.
