Minister Signs Hakama Wastewater Project Agreement

Irbid: Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Saud on Monday signed an agreement to implement the Hakama Wastewater Project, funded by the German Development Bank (KfW) through a grant of JOD 11.377 million. The project, to be executed by a local contractor, will serve the Hakama area in Irbid Governorate as part of a programme aimed at improving water access, enhancing distribution efficiency, and upgrading sanitation services in communities hosting Syrian refugees.

According to Jordan News Agency, Abu Saud stated that the ministry is proceeding with the implementation of water and sanitation projects in the northern governorates, under Package B, to improve services in areas affected by emergency conditions, particularly those hosting Syrian refugees. He noted that the ministry, in line with its wastewater strategy, is committed to completing these projects and accelerating their implementation. The goal is to extend wastewater services to more areas, improve infrastructure efficiency, protect the environment and groundwater, and enhance service and public health conditions across the Kingdom.

The minister said the project will contribute to improving environmental and health conditions in Hakama and surrounding areas by expanding the sewage network and linking the area to the wastewater system. Wastewater will be transported to the Wadi al-Arab (Dogra) treatment plant for processing and reuse in irrigation. The project includes the construction of 53.9 km of wastewater transmission lines of various diameters, 6.7 km of household connections, 1.3 km of ductile pipe pressure lines, a new pumping station, and the rehabilitation of the existing station. It also includes infrastructure upgrades and improvements to health facilities in the host communities.
