Mesto highlights aviation sector’s efforts to counter pandemic at a regional meeting

Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) delegation, headed by its Chairman, Haitham Mesto, participated on Wednesday, in the Fifth Meeting of the Directors General of Civil Aviation-Middle East Region, which is being held remotely for two days.

The participation aims to get acquainted with the initiatives and efforts made by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to recover the civil aviation sector and the countries’ “best” practices in this regard, according to a CARC statement.

In his speech, in the presence of ICAO Secretary-General, Juan Carlos Salazar, Mesto stressed the importance of the aviation sector due to its “key” impact on the countries’ economic and social aspects, highlighting its “important” role during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Highlighting the sector’s relief role during the pandemic, he said airlines contributed to the evacuation process, vaccine delivery and maintained sustainability of supply chains for basic commodities and medical supplies, as was the case in Jordan.

Mesto commended anti-pandemic efforts and initiatives made by countries and organizations working in the international civil aviation sector, adding that some have become “best practices.”

In his capacity as Chairman of the Executive Council of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO), Mesto stressed the continued commitment to ACAO-ICAO cooperation and coordination to achieve common goals, foremost is the sustainability and resilience of the air transport sector in the region.
