Khan Younis: The medical staff of the Jordanian Field Hospital (Khan Younis/4) successfully saved the lives of a young girl and a young man within days by performing complex surgical operations. Hassan Shdeifat, a neurosurgery specialist at the hospital, shared insights into the challenging yet life-saving procedures undertaken by the team.
According to Jordan News Agency, Shdeifat explained that upon the girl’s arrival at the hospital’s emergency department, she was found to be suffering from a brain hemorrhage and a depressed skull fracture caused by an airstrike during the ongoing aggression on Gaza. Despite the challenges faced by the medical team, the girl underwent a delicate brain surgery that successfully saved her life.
He highlighted that the Jordanian Field Hospital has also performed numerous similar or even more complex operations, such as skull reconstruction surgeries for completely shattered skulls, removal of shrapnel from the brain, and treatment of gunshot wounds to the brain. Another int
ricate operation was performed on a young man who had sustained a gunshot wound with the bullet lodged in his brain, causing a subdural hematoma and significant brain displacement. The patient arrived unconscious with deteriorating vital signs, and an emergency surgery was promptly performed, which saved his life.
Shdeifat mentioned that the bullet remained lodged at the base of the skull, but the team successfully controlled the bleeding and treated the damaged tissues. Following the surgery and recovery, the patient, who had been critically injured, returned to the hospital walking on his own. He expressed his gratitude by bringing a symbolic gift, a locally made sweet from Gaza.
Shdeifat emphasized that the hospital is equipped with diverse medical facilities, including two major operating rooms, a minor operating room, and a room for chronic wounds, as well as specialty clinics in various fields such as general surgery, pediatrics, internal medicine, vascular surgery, and plastic surgery.
