Amman: Lower House Speaker Mazen Qadi emphasized the significance of empowering Jordanian youth and broadening their involvement in political activities, aligning with Royal directives aimed at creating more opportunities for young individuals to participate in decision-making processes. During a meeting with local youth delegations at the Lower House of Representatives, Qadi highlighted the chamber’s commitment to prioritizing youth-related issues, as guided by His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.
According to Jordan News Agency, Qadi referred to the recently amended National Service and Reserve Service Law, which was endorsed by MPs two days prior. This law aims to develop the physical, intellectual, and cultural capacities of the youth while reinforcing their national identity and discipline. Qadi stated that the chamber is dedicated to fostering a legislative environment that supports youth engagement in public life, emphasizing the importance of providing meaningful spaces for dialogue with youth-led initiatives, and incorporating their views and recommendations into legislative and oversight activities.
Sultan Khalaileh, president of the Sanad for Thought and Youth Work association, commended the collaboration between the association and the Lower House, viewing it as a significant example of cooperation between civil society organizations and the legislative body. Khalaileh noted that the association carries out specialized projects designed to enhance youth participation in local governance and public affairs. These projects include the Parliamentary Alliance for Youth and the Youth Local Governance Participation Project, both supported by the King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD) under the “Tamkeen” initiative.
Baha Qudah, general coordinator of the project aimed at boosting youth involvement in local and municipal governance, shared a comprehensive policy paper featuring key recommendations collected during field tours across the Kingdom’s governorates. The paper also outlined youth initiatives intended to further their engagement in local governance and proposed measures to enhance their participation in community activities.
In conclusion, Qadi listened to various proposals from young participants across different youth sectors, addressing topics such as entrepreneurship development, cultural initiative support, political involvement, expansion of youth-focused community programs, and challenges faced by young people in the governorates. He acknowledged the innovative ideas presented and affirmed the Lower House’s dedication to these recommendations. Qadi stated that the upcoming phase would involve strengthened communication channels with youth institutions, recognizing the crucial role young people play in Jordan’s comprehensive modernization efforts.
