Local Administration Ministry Issues Warning on Severe Weather Instability in Jordan

Amman: The Ministry of Local Administration on Friday issued a warning alerting the nation to a state of atmospheric instability affecting Jordan, characterized by rainfall that could be heavy at times, particularly in the eastern and southern regions.

According to Jordan News Agency, the atmospheric conditions are also causing active south-easterly winds that are raising dust, particularly impacting the Al-Ruwaished municipality and parts of the eastern Badia. These areas are currently experiencing dust waves leading to a significant reduction in horizontal visibility.

In a recent statement, the Ministry announced that it has circulated maps to municipalities highlighting high-risk areas, mainly in parts of the eastern and southern Badia. The regions identified include Al-Ruwaished, Al-Safawi, Azraq, Bani Hashem, Deir Al-Kahf, Umm Al-Quttain, Al-Kafita, Sabha, Al-Dafyana, Al-Salehiya, Naifa, and the Disi Basin in southern Jordan, which are expected to see heavy thunderstorms and face elevated risk levels.

The Ministry has instructed the heads of municipal committees, joint services councils, and municipal affairs directors to maintain close monitoring of these areas on the ground. It also indicated that the rest of the Kingdom would experience risk levels that could range from low to moderate, emphasizing that the list of critical areas has been revised based on the latest weather data.

Reports from the Meteorological Department and the early warning system suggest that the unstable weather conditions could trigger flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, especially in eastern Jordan. Additionally, there is a risk of reduced visibility due to dust in the Badia regions, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and slippery road conditions in areas affected by rainfall.

The Ministry has urged citizens to exercise caution, especially avoiding flood-prone areas and valleys.
